Philosophy and Purpose of Education

Christian education is the only genuine education that exists.

““The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” -Proverbs 1:7. The fear of the Lord and obedience to the truth is paramount to Christian education.

Most “Christian education” today is so-called. However, true Christian education is more than a name, more than having a Bible and prayer in the classroom, and more than heralding a school verse. It is the way of life. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He came that we might not only have life but have it more abundantly. Therefore, education is only Christian if it is indeed Christ-centered. Without Christ as the center, education is “”Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of truth.” (II Timothy 3:7)

Our purpose at WHBS is to train godly young people for the cause of Christ. Since the Lord requires a vessel fit for service, we have definitive guidelines for dress, personal habits, and leisure that are based upon Bible principles that should be the way of life at home as well as at school.

Students will be taught and expected to practice integrity, honesty, a work ethic, self-control, self-discipline, and a respect and honor for the rights and property of others. These Bible principles of life shall be integrated into every aspect of our school program giving our students a system of absolutes. By proper example we leave situation ethics no place to exist.

The Bible is taught daily through classroom instruction, Scripture memorization, and daily chapel services where students are challenged to serve God.

At WHBS, academics is our next priority and is now enhanced with our goal of Christ-centeredness. Each class is staffed with a teacher who is a professional and God-called. Every level stresses the fundamental basics of reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, math, history, and science. Our program is further enhanced with such elective courses as computer, typing, home economics, physical education, accounting, foreign languages, home repair, the sciences, and a music program that includes choir and band. The majority of our graduates do well on college entrance exams and successfully go on to college.

Physical education is another important part of our curriculum. Students will participate in the exercise and character building that physical education can provide. Our teachers are dedicated to the Lord and point our students to Christ first and give God the glory for ALL things. The present sports program includes weight lifting for boys and cheer camp for girls.

Every course, activity, and program shall be guided by teachers, coaches, and administrators with prayer, energy, and skill coupled with professionalism, which is planned for the benefit of each student. Every staff member shall be a born-again Christian, dedicated to the Lord, faithful to His service, and separated from the world.

Thank you for your trust, and we will do our best to guard it with great care.
